Since I last posted here I have completed two more blocks.

Here are all the blocks I have completed so far.

I am looking forward to starting the next block.

My first block

This i my first block to Flower Pots.
I have chosen a black background fabric for this quilt. It's Dimples from Andower fabric. I love how the colors just "pop". It will definitely not be the last time i use a dark background.

I have recently finished a quilt by Susan Powell, and I must say, that going back to one of Kim's pattern, it feels like coming home. Very relaxing.

I do not need a quilt as big as the originally, so I had to modify it. So it will be done without the top and bottom panels. This way it will fit my wall. I have an idea, that I could use either of the the leftover panels, to make a small wallhanging, with sashing around.

Help wanted...

Does anyone know what this fabric is called and who the Designer is? I think its Kaffe Fassett, but I can't find it on the web. It was in a fabric kit for Flower Pots, from Glorious Color, and I bought it last year. The background is black, and the little flowers is red and pink and orange.
It is very useful to the little circles, and I intended to get some more, in different color. So any information would be appreciated.

Since LollyPops is finished I started Flower Garden. I have 11 blocks prepped and ready to stitch,

I really like the clover background and have decided to just let the top and bottom borders go in a different direction. With all the applique I doubt anyone will even notice it.

HI fellow GA enthusiasts, I started my version of Roseville Album a little over a year ago and am happy to say it is done. I machine quilted the star blocks in the border and hand quilted the central and corner blocks. I enjoyed the entire process and love it. Happy appliquing to all!!

LollyPop Trees Finished

I finished my LollyPop Trees quilt this week. I started this quilt October 2010 so it took me 14 months working intermittently to complete.
Now on to Flower Garden. I purchased grey clover to use as my background but now I notice the pattern is directional and I can't decide how to cut the top and bottom borders so the pattern will all go in the same direction. Should I piece them ? I think this is the fabric Kim used as her background - wonder what she did? Nancy

FINALLY a FINISH!
my smaller version is now hanging in my dining room.

It was quilted by Joann Hoffman..
she did an excellent job!

Check out how she quilted the fabric in the center.. amazing!

So what's next? I'm thinking 'Lollipops'. I have to decide on a color scheme.. but not for a bit as I'm working on a book to be delivered in March.. and have a lot of travel for teaching.. maybe I'll see YOU on the road!

8. block finished!!

After I finished the 8th vase, I started on the panel with the two big trees. And for the first time I took all the fabrics and layed them on the table. Thank you for the tip Paula!!! I was able to choose fabric for most of the animals in one go.And suddenly I have used a lot af fabrics that I havent used before! And I must admit, the colours looked lovely on the table, eventhough my husband doesnt quite agree, since its our dining table he he !!!

Well I was having an issue trying to choose fabrics for this block. I previously took my Westminster fabrics and put them into a storage box. For the life of me I couldn't see the fabrics (trying to be neat) well a quilting friend suggested, clean that table off and use it. Great idea. Now I can see everything. I was able to choose lots of fabric today!

First of all I wish you all a Merry Christmas!!!.

After spending 23.12 with all the family (15 in total), we had a very nice quiet Chrismas Eve Ole , his son Jonatan and I.

So the next days in Christmas are in our little family pure relaxation, NICE!! I spend the days finishing my left panel. I did not realise until I finished , that my colour choise was so diiferent the the original. but now I see it clearly. I actually like that.

Wow, I am on a roll. I choose all the fabrics and cut the patterns for all the birds on this block. It definitely is going much quicker than the top block. I will have this one done in no time, Yeah!

Princess feathers finally getting underway ...

I have finally started on my princess feathers. I received the pattern in March - only 10 months to get things up and running! I had a short delay while I found the perfect background fabric - one of Moda's essential dot patterns. Then the biggest delay came with my health. I had wanted to do this all by hand but my hands weren't cooperating with me. (I was also just finishing up the civil war bride quilt all by hand.) Unfortunately the arthritis in my hands won. My friends finally convinced me to use machine applique. So ... I have used hand applique for the stems and circles and machine applique, with decorative stitches for the larger pieces. Part of me feels very guilty about not using hand applique for this glorious quilt. The other part is happy to just start seeing it getting done.

I choose to use repro fabrics, making the feathers in blues and purples and flowers in reds, golds, oranges. I wanted the centers to blend more with the background so I chose a print in a similar value. The wonderful birds will be some of everything. I think now that the first block has been completed, I will make faster progress on the quilt. The guilt will probably remain though :(

P.S. ... the close up of the stitches is not true color. The stitches around the feather are closer to the color of the fabric than they appear in this photo. I used a buttonhole stitch that places additional stitches outside which seems to highlight the edge more. It looks better in person.

Hello out there!

I managed to sew the 9 blocks with the sashings and prepped all of the borderblocks. At once over several weeks. I also have some borderblocks sewn already(?)

Meanwhile i was thinking of the cornerblocks (multitasking, you know how it goes)
I went for the regular applique (the block with the stem) first, but then i decided i could as well finish up that fabric 'serendipity' by Paula Nadelstern since i only had some serious swiss cheese left of it and make the inner circles, also the needleturn funky not exactly circle way. Question : the left (on red) or the right (on leftover squares) on the top.
What do you think? Personally i think i go for the red squares now, but it wouldn't be the first time i change my mind. So i would like to hear from you. (who wouldn't)

And then, i have another question i hope you can help me with : my design wall is made of insulation plates covered with that sticky fabric from clover you buy in precut packs, 1 size only. I think it seriously needs some washing. Can i do that? Because of course, i do not have the packaging anymore and i don't know of a store here that carries that so i could go take a peek.

I FINISHED!!! I think there is easily over 1,000 hours of work in this so far. I started more than a year ago, and there has been a lot of distractions in my life during this project. But I kept going and have loved every minute of making this top. This is by far the most fun I have ever had and my best work yet! Thanks Kim for your inspiration.

When I started this pattern I was posting the blocks here as I finished quite often. Then for some reason I got locked out and was unable to post anything (computer issue on my end)... plus a new job, a few days away for the Houston International Quilt Fest and many other distractions have kept me away for quite awhile. Happy to be be back and to be able to share the finished quilt top.

You will notice that I changed the 4 corners to my own design. I also did my own thing on the border... I found this giant rick rack that I just loved and I think it fits here really well.

I have found material for the backing and will be starting the hand quilting sometime early next year.

Catching up

My last 2 cornerblocks.
They are darker than the other two, but the center flower is the same in all four.

The right side panel is finished also.
This one did not turn out quit as red as I was aiming for, but I think I like it anyway.

I did not use the Starch/perfect circles method either. I just mark my circles on the background fabric, and needle-turn them in place. It was a lot of fun to get them as round as I possible.

Next I have some big secret plans for the rest of the quilt. But you must wait a little while to see it being revealed. So stay tuned :-)

Hi,
So I finally got around to put everything up on my designwall. First I thought i was going to do the cornerstones in the red background, but now i think i'll just stick with the coloured squares also.
I feel kind of proud of myself to have done everything from my stash, with some quite old fabrics that i don't even like anymore, because i really do like the result.

I'm working on the borderblocks now, but have nothing to show so that will be for next time.

I have finished 9 large blocks and 2 smaller borderblocks now. I am still very much in love with this quilt and really happy with my turqoise dotted background.

Before I decide how many large blocks I want in my quilt, I will make all the borderblocks that are needed for a 9 x 9 blocks square quilt... though I would love to start working on my tenth block...

Hi my name is Anne, living in Denmark and this is my first applique project. I fell in love with the Roseville album , when I saw it on a internet page.
I love playing with all the beautiful fabrics.
I use mainly needle turn for sewing.
As you can see the block with the cactus plants is not completely finished: I found them SO boring to sew, so I do a little every second day and continue with other blocks.
It is so inspirering to see all yours work and which fabrics you use.

Please forgive the poorly light on the picture. It was late at night when I took it.

I have looked at Kim´s quilt regarding the color choise, when I was picking fabric for the birds.

I am not so great in choosing color and Kaffe´s fabric.

The inner circle in the sun gave me quit a lot of trouble. I made several choises before settling with this one.

Over at the Danish blog I have pictures from the beginning to the end.

I did have a lot of fun doing this panel. It was very satisfying.

Now on to the last two cornerblocks.

Finished my Lollypop Trees top...

I love it! I had quite a mix of old and new Kaffe prints as I just kept buying and buying them. It does measure square, I put it on the grass and photographed it off the deck so this is from 15' up. I started mine in February and finished it last night.

When I did the sashing I made pairs of blocks, then sewed pairs of pairs together without cutting between them. I continued down the line and that was helpful in the sewing to sew multiple strips at a time. I did pin the sashing strips to the quilts because I wanted it to line up exactly. Offset corners would show up with the black.

These are my Kaffe fabrics I have left - most are 1/8 of a yard or so. I am going to cut them into 4.5" width strips and make the backing out of them. The design I am going to use is based on this one:

Volume in Scraps from Scrap Republic by Emily Cier. Her quilt in the book is only about 60", I think, so I am making 15 columns of 4" strips which should come out to 100". I might add another strip in there so the machine quilter will have enough of a backing.

Thanks for sharing this journey with me. I don't know when I'm going to make another Kim McLean quilt - I need to do this backing, then I have Lilly Pilly to make.

I thought my quilt needed some more balance, so I chose that the 4 corner blocks should be the same pattern.
I chose this block because it was the one who used the space as much as possible. Seen through my eyes.

Next project will squirrel panel. It's a bit of a puzzle with colors, and requires a lot of planning to get it to go up.

Here is the center block that I have just completed and I have started another. I am back on track working on the blocks. I had been choosing all of the fabrics at once for each block which was a struggle for me. I have changed my approach and am doing just the baskets/vases first, then the flowers, and when they are complete, the leaves.

Lollypop Trees Completed!

I was thrilled to be honored with the Best of Show and Blue Ribbon for my Lollypop Trees this weekend at the Pieceful Hearts Quilt Show in North Augusta, SC. It has taken a while to complete this quilt but I enjoyed it so much, from choosing the fabrics with my friend, Ille (who is getting close to completion) to stitching the applique and finally, the machine quilting. That was difficult, even on a longarm, but worth the effort.

Here are some close up pictures and I have many more on my blog if you'd like to view them. It was SO fun working with all these gorgeous fabrics and the pattern by Kim McLean. Thanks, Kim, for helping us see you can take a simple antique pattern with solid fabrics and totally change the look.

The judge mentioned the block above as one that she particularly liked on the comment sheet. I just quilted what came to mind and what seemed to work for me through the different blocks.

Okay, now I need to get my Flower Pots completed! It's been a very enjoyable journey and thanks for those who made this blog possible so we can all share these wonderful quilts with each other!

Another winner Des Moines guild show 2011

Thought I would post this quilt as it was in the Des Moines guild quilt show 2011. Leigh won a 2nd place ribbon. Leigh and I both belong to the DM guild and the Applique Group. Love how she had it machine quilted using feathers and her work is very well done.

The show is over and I wasn't a winner, maybe the next show I enter. The one thing I don't like is that you do not get a critique from the judges at this show and the only show that they do give one is at the Paducah show. I'm debating about entering it in Lancaster AQS show, again I won't know what the judges have to say about it. I still have a little time to decide. I did talk to many women about my quilt, apparently there is a large following of Kaffe's fabrics lovers. I did see one older lady make a terrible face at it and couldn't move fast enough away from it, must thought it was going to jump at her. LOL. It was sent to Paducah for photography as it may be in the 2013 AQS engagement calendar.

I haven't been commenting on blogs much this summer, like many others I couldn't get it to work and gave up on it then finally took the time to figure it out.

Since I'm not working now, (job cut and I'm perfectly fine with that, it was getting in the way of my quilting, LOL) I have been sewing up a storm. Have finished sewing, embroidering and appliqueing 8 small wall quilts and 2 queen size quilts, all need quilted. My next adventure is taking a class to learn to machine quilt starting with the large ones. I prefer to hand quilt, especially my own designs but I will never live long enough to get them all done. I always hire a gal to do my machine quilting but I have too many and it does get quite costly.

Take a look at Civil War Bride blog, my friend, Karen won 2nd place at AQS DM 2011. Such a beautiful quilt, much deserving win. Since we both knew we would be in the same class in this competition I stopped working on my CWB quilt and put all my time into the Bizzy Bird Farm.

I'm working on the border of an applique quilt as the center 9 blocks are done. It has blue denim looking fabric for the background and the applique is done with medium & light blues and white/blue toile. Again different looking style for me. My Basket Medallion quilt (Kim's) is on my list to get done, soon....

Progress---sort of

I am presently working on this block. I made the basket leaving an opening for two stems, added the stems using a light box for placement. Then realized there was a third stem, ripped a few stitches to make room, appliqued the stems, noticed the background was a bit rippled between the stems and the basket, used a bit of steam to see if the bias stems would "relax a bit,-----acckk----there were two short bits of red thread on the ironing board and the red leached onto the background, dabed a bit with water and the spots lightened a bit, then decided that the flowers would probably cover the spots. I press on.

I also added a photo of the block that I had just completed.

I saw a photo of Julee's Roseville hanging proudly at the AQS show in Des Moine. Congrats on a gorgeous rendition.

Gorgeous big flowers with beautiful leaves, I'm loving making each of these blocks, especially using Keiko Goke's amazing fabrics.

Hello,

Now i see that my photo is very blurry but you get the idea. This is my 9th and final block of the lollipops. I had hoped to be sewing the border by now but life... It still has to be prepped. I desperatly hope to get to it after the weekend of oct. 15th. And by then i hope to be able to show you the layout of the center with sashings, which are all sewn, the squares that is.

Catching Up

I've been busy. The autumn weather is starting here, but there are still a few flowers in my garden...

I'm sorry about the colors--I'm having to use a different camera, and apparently haven't figured it out. These are all on Kona Snow, despite the variation. You've seen the one on the upper right before, but it was in the group, so got it's photo taken.

I've also finished a couple more Roseville Album blocks...

I just finished the bottom panels in Roseville Album.

It was sometimes a struggle to get it finished.

And some of the times, I drag myself to the sewing.

I dont know why it was so, but now Im just happy it is finished.

Maybe I should take a little break from Kaffe Fabric,

and then hopefully the joy of appliqueing will return.

Another two "Sprigs" and my little applique tote

I am almost embarrassed to be showing my Sprigs blocks one at a time because so many seem to be able to complete them so much faster. But, progress is progress and sharing motivates me to keep plodding along. This one is my favorite because I love the way the colors work together.

This one is a scrap box creation. I just pulled pieces out of the scrap pile and it felt good to use some of those little bits I couldn't throw away.

I thought I would share the little tote I found to carry my sprigs blocks in progress with me as I travel for work. It fits right in my purse and I have everything I need ready to go whenever I have a few moments to stitch. It is the Mini Hanging Organizer by Vera Bradley. I would love to see what others use to organize their projects.

Four new blocks completed; and the same blocks with border number 2 half done and half ready to be appliqued. These blocks are very special to me. They were made with scraps given to me by friends. The beauty of applique is that you can use small pieces of fabric leftover from friends lovely quilts.

These are the start of my lollipop blocks. Love the pattern by Kim! Am using fabrics from Kaffe and Jane Sassaman. The backgrounds will be of various fabrics, like I usually do in my quilts.

The photo of the blocks are a bit washed out, but that's due to the photographer.....me!

Originally, I was going to only applique four blocks (they were to be picture framed), but because I'm enjoying the outcome of the blocks, I've decided to sew more blocks. Guess the quilt is taking on a life of it's own!

Looking at this finished block, you might not have guessed that I’m not a big lover of green. I’m really happy with the result though and even want to make another one in different shades of green.

It’s funny and maybe it’s caused by the fact the my love for these fabrics is growing. I had to learn to love them, or rather, to work with them, but now I’m hooked. Kaffe Fasset, Brandon Mably and Philips Jacobs design/develop the most wonderful colour combo’s.

Working with these fabrics is like having a ball and maybe even love for life. Last week during the Kim McLean club in Haarlem I left loaded with inspiration, so this certainly won’t be the last quilt I hope to make with these fabrics. Sometimes you succeed in finding a fat quarter from an old series. It has become a sports to collect them.

The next block will be purple. Not one of my favourites either, but so much fun to work on!

I'm Quilting Flower Pots

Here's my top; I started stitching last October and finished the top in early August. It needs a new name, I think. "Credit to Kim"? "Kim and Kaffe Production"? "Glorious Applique"? I treasured every minute I spent stitching, and reading Glorious Applique every day has been part of the fun. I'm hand-quilting, so don't look for a finished top any time soon. Fellow blogger Marion and I visited Quilt Expo in Pennsylvania last Friday and we both splurged at the booth from Alabama (Quiltmaker's Workshop) which had an extremely tempting array of Kaffe fabrics. Stars and Sprigs is next for me. Thanks for all the support this blog provides.

It's about time I made an appearance here, my applique has been sadly neglected for a while and I have been missing it hugely. A little while ago I fell in love with the bright and cheery (not unlike Kaffe's) fabrics from the talented quilt artist Keiko Goke.

These fabrics make me smile whenever I look at them, so I have decided to match them up with Kim's gorgeous pattern Flower Garden. The wall where I will hang this quilt when finished won't be large enough for the whole quilt, so I plan on making just five rows of the flower blocks (20 blocks in all) and no borders. To spice things up a bit and give the quilt a Keiko Goke feel (see some of her amazing quilts here), my background blocks will be pieced using some of the whiter Keiko fabrics, a few other various fabrics thrown in, and of course, some of Kaffe's shot cottons....this is my first background block ready for its applique!

A lot of my Keiko Goke fabrics I have purchased from Liza at Glorious Colour. Keiko lives in Sendai, Japan, the centre of the earthquake and tsunami earlier this year. Our dear Liza has made a very generous commitment to send ALL the profits she receives from Keiko's fabrics this year over to Keiko. I feel very happy that my purchases are going to help that devastated community in a small way. Thank you Lisa!

I haven't forgotten my Hearts & Flowers finished top, yet to be quilted...

Finally! It's done! I feel like I've looked at/worked on this one forever. But in truth, it's been in fits and starts. Pat Sloan challenged me over a year ago. And I bit. It's a top and will now reside in "topville" until I get through a few others already in "topville". But I think I know how I want to quilt it, and that may move it up the line. I enjoyed the fussy cutting and the challenge of choosing colors. My next one, yes, I said next one....is going to be Flower Garden. I think I will do a hand applique instead of machine applique. But first a few other projects that have been on hold.....

Stars and Sprigs progress

Thanks to Janet (Quiltsalott) for pointing me to that video on knotting the silk thread I am making much faster (and much more satisfying) progress on my Sprigs applique blocks. Number 2 was only delayed by Mother Nature. We had rain at 4 inches an hour the other night and my poor house just couldn't hold the water back any longer. Happily, today the sun is shining and hopefully we can start to dry out. I am not complaining because, for us, the bad weather was mostly a nuisance. So many others are dealing with real floods and Texas can only dream of the water we wish we didn't have.

These two Stars blocks are made from the new Dear Jane 2 line of fabric. They are some really wild reproduction fabrics and add just the pop of color I am looking for. I am enjoying this pattern so much. It is fun to finish a block and start poking around in the stash to choose the next fabrics. Thanks, Kim, for designing the vehicle to fully appreciate my complete stash of fabrics.

I agree with Taryn I had to rethink my applique method working with smaller pieces compared to the Flower Garden blocks!
hopefully my applique will improve with each block, how I love these little blocks! I am so inspired to work on this quilt I can't wait to start the next block.
Having chosen fabrics for the Flower Garden blocks has made choosing fabrics for this quilt so much easier!
I am so happy that my bolt of background for the blocks and borders arrived so I could start this beauty!

A tip for using silk thread

Silk thread is such a popular choice when it comes to applique but it's so fine that it readily slips out of the eye of the needle when stitching leading to frustration.
I sent this Video link to Taryn over at Repro Quilt Lover and she has reported that it's sped up her stitching so I thought it would be a good idea to share it here in case you didn't know about it.

and I am still working away at the Roseville Album. Some months ago I finished the 4th corner block,

and began working on the right side panel. For some reason it went faster than the squirrel "panel," and it was great fun to work on.

Now I have begun the nine blocks for the center section. They go together much faster than the large panels, of course, so perhaps it won't be yet another year before I have a finish! Meanwhile I am loving all the inspiration from fellow GA bloggers around the globe and hoping I live long enough to make more Kim McLean quilts. I am quite spoiled for any other designs.

I finished my first Sprigs block this weekend! This is such a fun quilt to make. Each little applique is like it's own little project. There is so much variety that one block just flows into another. I also completed six of the stars but I can see I need to stop using blue and pink.

I have not posted here for a long time. But I am still working on my blocks. I did prepare several of them and I am now doing the applique. These are the last 8 ones I've finished. Some of them were made using my battery operated head light during our last blackout due to hurricane Irene.

Hello every one

This is my block 8 from the lollipops. I'm already sewing my 9th and final block and also keeping busy with sewing the sashings.
I'll have to wait at least until the kids are going back to school on september 1st before i can prep the borderblocks.
Also already thinking hard what quilt i will start next.

I also was wondering how do you audition your fabrics for each block?

I usually cut squares/rectangles of the pieces I am considering using and pin them where they will go, look at it for awhile then start tracing and now I need to thread baste the pieces down. the green on the left will be my stems...

Flower Pots top finished

At last my finished Flower Pots quilt top. The picture quality isn't the best cause it is just too big for my design wall but it is finished and I love it. A big thank you too everyone who has commented and posted on this blog. Everyone's work is so inspiring. And thanks especially to Kim, who not only created these beautiful patterns but who continues to give advice and comment on our work. It is thrilling to me to know that she is looking at my work! Hope to get this quilted soon ... now what is next Roseville Album or Flower Garden or maybe another, I can't wait to start. Oh and any suggestions for how to quilt this? I am thinking of outlining the applique and then a small filler for the background and nothing in the sashing. Any thoughts?

Top panel Flower Pots

Here is the top panel of my Flower Pots quilt. I have been busy putting the top together and will post it soon. Today I had a bit of a mishap while trimming the panels. I was trimming the final borders of appliqued circles and realized that on one of the borders it was not straight and some of the circles were too close to the edge on one side. Fortunately it could be fixed by removing the circles and shifting them about 3/8 in but it was pretty frustrating. I think trimming down the applique blocks is my least part of quilting. So scary after all that work, one wrong move and disaster. Anyway, that slowed down my final assembly by several hours but I still love the quilt and all is well now.

"Sueville Album" top is together

Here is my completed "Sueville Album" top! I used the star blocks from Stars and Sprigs as inspiration for my border treatment. To keep with the RA theme, I designed applique blocks for the corners using some elements from Kim's pattern with twists of my own once again. I am so pleased with how it came out. I plan to bind the finished top in the blue polka dot but would like input as to whether I should add another 2" border of the polka dot before adding the binding. What do you all think? Will that be too much blue polka dots?? Thank you Kim for your beautiful designs - they are so much fun to work with. Thank you also for following the blogs and embracing our alterations to your designs with such enthusiasm and support. Now I have to decide which one to do next!!

Most of the applique has be finished for a while as I started this in January. Here is one of the finished side panels of my Flower Pots quilt. These light and bright colors are really fun to work with the quilt just seems so happy. I spent yesterday cutting out all the little squares and starting to put it together. LOTS of cutting but well worth it.

This is my finished bottom panel of the Flower Pots quilt. I feel like with this panel I was starting to get a feel for using the Kaffe fabrics. It was lots of fun fussy cutting all the little circles and I loved the butterflies too. I better start cutting out all the little squares so I can start putting bits together soon.

The hardest part for me, is to choose the right color thread to match the fabric.

I decided to change the vase completely. Thank you for all the suggestions made on my blog. I went with the red fabric, which was the most popular choice. For the reverse applique I used Plink. (Thank you for your suggestion, Kim)

I am in the process of choosing fabrics for my next 2 blocks. I love working with these fabrics!

Four corner blocks

I have finally finished the four corner blocks of the Roseville quilt. I decided that I would do these first so that I could leave the fun of the panels until the end.

I am sorry the pictures look as if they are on different backgrounds - they aren't. It is all white with the mint green dots.

I am in the middle of another large applique project as well so it may take some time to complete any of the panels but I will keep you posted.

It is so wonderful to see all the exquisite work that you are all doing. My new machine is going to be marvellous for all this applique, just need more practice to perfect the technique I think!!

The second block

Here is the second middle block from Flower Pots. I am not thrilled with the fabric choices in this block but as the quilt progresses it should look better. I really hate unstitching and replacing fabric and in following the blog I have discovered that it is best to just leave things alone to see the overall picture. I still like the colors but find that working with these fabrics is more tricky than I expected - but so much fun!

Lollypop love

It all began with admiring the quilts on this gloriousapplique blog. Then I bought the pattern for the Lollypop Tree quilt and a little bit later a quiltstore in Holland started a Kim McLean club. I decided to join this club together with a friend. It became more and more fun to work on the Lollypop Tree blocks and to buy those gorgeous fabrics to work with.

Last month I started the blog Kim McLean in Holland, but I’m very happy to be able to show my work on this blog now as wel, thanks to Janet!!

I downsized the pattern to 70% of the original and the blocks I work on are downsized to 75%, so the appliqued forms fill have a bit more space around them. The squares in the sashings will therefore be made at 1,5" finished and I understood it’s better to start cutting all those little squares now!!

Hi everyone. I discovered this wonderful blog about 7 months ago and was delighted and amazed by all the beautiful quilts. Seeing Kaffe's fabrics used this way opened me up to a new way of looking at his fabric and suddenly I was ordering the pattern for Flower Pots and adding new fabrics to my stash. I am thrilled to finally be able to join in the fun of posting (thanks Janet for all your work). Here is one of the center blocks and I love the happy colors.

It is only available in the book called: Fabrics of Society by Dr. Annette Gero, it is a pattern by Kim and called " Old Bright ", the original quilt is hanging in a Museum here in Perth WA and called the Sarah Evans quilt.

Block 7

Here's my block 7 of Kims Lollipops.
It's the first one with some pink in it, as Kim suggested. And I made some more sashings.
Blocks 8 and 9 are already prepped. Will start prepping the border blocks soon.

On another note : is someone going to the 'Festival of Quilts' in Birmingham UK by any chance? I'm going. Maybe we could meet up?

I thought you might like to see the central panel of the Roseville quilt that I have been working on for some time.

I am using the glue and machine applique method which I love - it takes a long time to do all the prep but tends to be really accurate in the end. Even all the little bits in the bottom right corner were made this way. Some of the small circles are also hand appliqued. Most of the fabrics are Kaffe Fassett but I have added a few batiks and others from my stash. I am using a washable fusible backing as the templates which will wash out completely at the end of the project.

My most recent block is this blue and purple one. My mother-in-law passed two weeks ago and she loved these colors, so I thought of her as I made this one.
