I believe the hardest part for me is choosing the fabrics for each piece.
I spend more time shuffling fabric around trying to decide which one to use.
A lot of the fabrics are not available anymore and being mostly left brained - once I see one in the quilt its hard for me to substitute.
Those aqua leaves at the top of this block are bothering me. What do you think?
Hi there, I really like your choices, and I'll bet after you make a few more blocks, working in some more of the aqua, they won't stick out to you. I think they add a nice highlight. It seems the most common problem in working with these fabrics is exactly the one you mention. It will get easier to choose........I promise. Your eye will adjust. Michele
ReplyDeleteNope, LOVE the aqua leaves, leave them there! They're adding depth :)
ReplyDeleteI also say, leave the aqua leaves. Add more of the aqua fabrics in the next block and you will see that they all work together. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteI don't have an opinion on the aqua leaves but the leaves on either side of the pink blossom are sure nice!
ReplyDeleteI like both of your blocks just the way they are, Nancy. ; ) EXCELLENT fussy cutting you've done! What an awesome selection/collection of fabrics you have there!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the aqua! I think it adds contrast and interest. Things get a bit boring if they're all perfect and matchy all the time, don't you think? Keep going, your blocks are awesome!
ReplyDeleteI have learned over the years if something is really bothering me in a block I had better change it, it will always bother me!
ReplyDeletemake a few more blocks if it is still bothering you then replace them!!!!
in the end you will be happier!
Kathie
Both blocks are beautiful! You have a mix of light, dark, and medium in your blocks. Maybe the very light aqua near the very dark black is catching your eye right now, but it helps balance out the color in the block? If replaced, your block might look pretty dark compared to the others? Why not see how it looks amongst the other blocks before changing anything...you can always switch later if it doesn't sit right?
ReplyDeleteTo my eye..if I were going to change anything it would be to make that lavender piece between the two aqua a tad darker? It would anchor the pieces? :)
They look so nice, your fabric choices show a lot of thought. I agree with some of the others, make some more and then change it if it still bothers you.
ReplyDeleteYour Lollipops are Beautiful..Lovely to see so many different versions in fabrics.
ReplyDeletecheers
Nancy, I love the blocks! Don't move those aqua leaves, they are gorgeous there.
ReplyDeleteI tend to choose the fabrics for the biggest pieces first, the smaller ones are easier. Keep up the good work. Kim McL
