I've finished the second block for my Roseville Album.
It looks pretty much like Kim's original block but I'm getting more comfortable looking at just the elements within each fabric to make choices so when I'm back in Grand Rapids and can hang them on the design wall I'll play around a little more with block three. I did get a pinking blade for my rotary cutter to try to keep the background fabric edges from fraying. Soooo frustrating. Back to stitching. I'm missing my package from Glorious Color - first week in the last four that I haven't placed an order.
I love your block, your vase fabric is amazing,so bright and cheery. What fabric did you use for your stems for the cherries. Looks like there are some fabrics missing that I don't have in my collection:).
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous!

Gay, it looks great! You missed the quilt show this weekend! My package from them should be here tomorrow, I hope.
ReplyDeletewhen I am preparing a background block I cut the fabric at least 2 inches larger so that I have room to serge all the way around the block and then have plenty of room to trim to the correct size when ready to put the quilt together. This prevents fraying. I have seen people putting masking tape on the edges which also works but then when you take the masking tape off, it usually pulls the edges so it frays badly. Serging works better... you could even do a small zigzag stitch on the sides.
ReplyDeleteWell done, Gay. I am lusting after the wavy stripe fabric. Plan to shop on Tues.
ReplyDeleteI dug out my pinkling scissors and trimmed the edges of my current block. I think this is the first time I have used them since purchase many years ago.
Your block looks really scrumptious Gay, well done! I really love it. Keep it up! Kim McL
