The bottom panel at last




It has taken me several months to finish this bottom panel, in spite of my eagerness to get to those charming animals. There was a moment of horror a few weeks ago when I discovered I had spilled coffee on the left edge and never noticed until the stain had set. Though I tried to soak part of it, the stain was still there. Oh well, I said, just more of the quilt's history. But when I finished the panel and soaked out the glue, lo and behold, the stain had disappeared. I should vow not to drink coffee anywhere near the quilt, but that just isn't going to happen. This panel was fun to make--even those curly trees.

    Very fun! I love that you're willing to accept a quilt's "story" ... they sometimes have so much to tell.

    Your panels are BEAUTIFUL!!! The soft color palette you're working with is stunning, and those small sparks of darker colors added here and there bring just the right amount of punch. ; ) Your fussy cuts and fabric choices are spot on too. I LOVE your rosy brown horse, the purple cat with the pinkish tail, and that pink spotted pig is adorable. I can hardly wait to see more...?! And, I always say, "Imagine the story this quilt holds...what it would say if it could talk...?!" Enjoy your journey and the story in those stitches, along with a nice cuppa joe too!!! : )

    So SO beautiful Marion! You'd never know there was coffee ever there.
    Those trees are fun, but take some time..even just to cut them out. You've sewn them beautifully. I like your fussy cuts. The dark horse looks like he's wearing a blanket like the horss do here in Winter.
    I look forward to seeing your next section. I love your color palette! :)

    Well you've been busy this morning! What adorable animals. Of course the pink cow is my favorite, but after that--what? The cute cat? The pink pig? The fancy goat? The trees are *beautiful*! So fun to see this after weeks of hearing you deal with the trees and circles. Do you know exactly how long it took? Do you keep track?

    Beautiful, Marion. The softer colors are so wonderful. Love the trees. And the animals are the reason I would want to make this quilt pattern. I am constantly amazed at how great and different everyone's color choices look.

    Your panels look sensational, I had to click on the photos so I could see all the parts up close and there's so much to look at and admire.
    Your applique skills are incredible and the animals are so great that I couldn't pick a favourite. Are you a needleturner or do you use another method?

    As always, you wonderful bloggers keep me excited and stitching. To answer some questions:
    Lee--I began the panel about Nov. 1. It's taking forever, isn't it? But there were the holidays in there and about two weeks when I was sick.
    Janet--I am a needleturner, and I often go back to your tutorials for reminders, so thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing so generously.
    Paula--I was dreading the trees too, and they do take some time, but once I got going it was great fun to watch the tree emerge from the big "blob" I had cut out. I basted the rough cut fabric to the background and snipped the seam allowances as I came to them.

    What more is there to say?? Everyone has said it i think.. Wonderful fabrics, color, applique, etc. I love it. While the animals are so cute, I also really liked the chimneys on your house. Great job all the way round!!
