Flower Garden

Since LollyPops is finished I started Flower Garden.  I have 11 blocks prepped and ready to stitch,
I really like the clover background and have decided to just let the top and bottom borders go in a different direction.  With all the applique I doubt anyone will even notice it.

  4. Thanks everyone for all the nice comments.
Sheila, For this quilt I am using the freezer paper and starch method because the pieces are so large. It is very quick.

  8. Well done Nancy! Do love your flower blocks, great colours. Good idea with the borders, they are very busy borders, people are going to notice your appliqué rather than the direction of the clovers!

  9. Floral Design or floral arts is the art of creating flower arrangements in vases, bowls, baskets or other containers, or making bouquets and compositions from cut flowers, foliages, herbs, ornamental grasses and other plant materials.

  10. I'm just starting to work on the Flower Garden quilt and find myself very challenged when it comes to selecting Kaffe fabrics. I'm a seasoned hand and machine Appliquer and fabric selection, to. E, is the best part. Could be I'm having trouble shaking off my traditional roots. Does anyone have some guidelines I could follow? Something more than sorting the fabric be color and "going for it" (tried that)' also tried sorting fabric by scale...that helped a bit more. I'm wondering if making templates out of plastic would help to see where to cut a shape for maximum impact. Any help, suggestions would be appreciated.

    1. I usually start with the biggest piece and look for a fabric for that one first. Sometimes the fabric with a lot of things on it is useful, move your templates around to find the best spot. One of my favourite fabric is the one with big roses in pinks and yellow, you can use parts of the floral and leaves. The other one is the fabric with shells - it has lots of things for birds & animal parts. Treat the fabric as a source of components for the applique shapes. Once you have the fabric for the big bit,the smaller pieces will fall into place. May be if you don't overthink it, and just dive into it? The first 2 blocks are the hardest for me. I wish I could show you in person! Kim McL
