" Pandemonium Quilt" - full view
Here is the full viwe of the quilt. Now you can see why it is called " Pandemonium" It is named by one of the ladies at Glorious Color!
I enjoyed making this quilt from the drawing to the assembly. If you have the EQ software, you can change the pieced blocks, the finished sizes of the blocks are indicated in the lay out sheet. The whole quilt was done by hand as I'm really bad with sewing on the machine. Liza has done template free instruction for the easier blocks such as the pinwheel and half triangle squares, for the more difficult blocks, sewing instructions are done for handpiecing method, however I'm sure some of you will do it by machine very well.
Please let me know if you need me to clarify anything, Cheers, Kim McL
Love it....this quilt is amazing.......where can I buy the pattern......
ReplyDeleteCathy, it will be available from the GloriousColor website as soon as it comes back from the printer. K
DeleteWhat an incredibly fun quilt Kim! It has a lot of stitching in it, it's really glorious.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wild, wild quilt!!!! I truly love it and can't wait until it is available so I can work on my own PANDEMONIUM. It will be such fun.....
ReplyDeleteWOWZER!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a stunning quilt, Kim! Congratulations!!
ReplyDeleteThe pond and the fountain are my favourite blocks.
Just beautiful, Kim. You did everything by hand, none by machine? You must not sleep and spend all your time sewing! Fingers are already itching to get started on this one. Thanks so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYes Sally, I do a better job doing the handpiecing, and shorter time too. Machine piecing for me is torture, I spend more time unpicking or cutting out new patches. Not sure why I have such a hard time machine piecing, I even bought one of those 1/4" foot with the guide on it and I still mess up. I use the machine to sew up the backing fabric, even here I can't sew straight! Kim
DeleteIt's absolutely stunning Kim. Fun and gorgeous. It is a must have. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteNobody has ever designed a quilt like this before. It is going to be so much fun! Bravo, Kim, and a big THANK YOU!
ReplyDeleteThe pattern is at the printers. It will still be some weeks before it will be done. This gives you all time to start collecting fabrics. Kim used hundreds so sort and iron those scraps in your stash!
ReplyDeleteLiza
WOW.
ReplyDeleteThe quilt is 94" x 94"
ReplyDeleteNothing short of glorious. Thanks from the bottom of my heart to Kim.
ReplyDeleteThat quilt is awesome!!
ReplyDeleteWow, that is a must have to me!!
ReplyDeleteDear Kim, while we are madly trying to clear the decks in anticipation of the coming Pandemonium, is it possible to give us a heads up on background fabric choices and quantities (for the applique blocks) so we can be ready to dive in. The quilt is spectacular, thanks for your inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI just love this quilt and as soon as its out I will make my own Pandemonium. I had my hand surgery 3 months a ago and doctors ordered is training my hand. This will be my training :-)!!! Lisa will you make a fabrick pack of the background fabrics?? thanks for your inspiration.
ReplyDeleteHi Anne
ReplyDeleteI don't think it will be possible to do a fabric pack. Kim used hundreds of fabric. As to the main background, she used a barely visible bold striped fabric, mostly white and pinkish. It is not one of our fabrics. If you do the main backgrounds in one fabric you will need 4 3/4 yds of it.
I think the approach I am going to take is to do the big panels in Spots but each in a different colorway. Right now I am thinking of using the palest ones, Sky, Water, Pink, Taffy, Sprout. But tomorrow I may change my mind.
Liza
This quilt is so stunnung that I'm out of words, Finding a new seksjon one after the other are for me lik x-mas. But could you as a spesial request find the backgrounds in spots as mention for me ?
DeleteJUST ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!
ReplyDeleteHi Everyone,
ReplyDeleteI'm attaching the fabric requirements for the applique panels here:
In this quilt, applique block backgrounds have been done on various fabrics and cut dimensions are listed below:
The Folly: cut 34”x26”.
The Pond: cut 32”x17”.
The Fountain: cut 23”x14”.
The Kitchen Garden: cut 34”x19”.
The Horse Yard: cut 38 x20”.
The Hen & Rooster Vine: cut 40”x8”.
The House: cut 36”x26”.
The Vertical Pot Vine: cut 26”x6”.
Otto, Hetty, Mr.Tucks & Henrietta: cut 4 pieces of 12”x12”.
Bird: 12”x8”.
IF using single background fabric for applique: 4 ¾ yards (170”) see separate cutting diagram.
When I started to do this quilt, my first thought as to what I should use for the applique panels was the " spots" fabric in the soft colours such as " Hydrangea, Soft Blue, or any of the other pastels in that line. Then I went to clean out my fabric storeroom and found these very pale stripes and had the guilty pangs that may be I should use what I have already. With 20/20 hindsight, I think those pastel spots would have been a better choice - see the "Bird" block on top of the "House" panel, what do you think? This one was done on the "pale blue" spots,I think the applique pieces look better on it. The other annoying thing with the stripe is the need to keep the stripes straight and often the applique do distort the stripey background - may be this is a bit of a silly notion but if the stripes are more bold, it will be noticeable. Also you have to cut to follow the stripe rather than the grain, a consideration, seeing the pieces are large.
What I also had in mind was that I was going to use the shot cottons in the pieced blocks and those will have to go next to the applique panels, so a contrast of print/shot cottons would be nice. Also,I was dying to use the stack of shot cottons I just bought!!
Liza suggestion for the spots in the palest colours are also a good idea and perhaps look in "aboriginal dots" line.
Apart from the choice of the applique panels, you'll find that you can really go to town using all the Kaffe fabrics. Watch out for the new " feathers" & " Brassica", yummy! You don't have to think much, as everything will fall into place. I work on the premise that 200 fabrics are easier to deal with than having only the choice of 5. Try it, it does work. What I have noticed also is that the Kaffe collective fabrics must use the same fabric dyes as the colours do fall into each other rather nicely, even the older ones go really well with the newbies.
The main thing is just to enjoy the process, there aren't many things that are repeated in the quilt so the boredom factor is minimized. It is lovely to cut so many different fabrics and have the knowledge that they'll all work together in the end! Have fun & let me know if you have any other queries, Kim McL
Absolutely love it.
