Block #9 done

I've gotten block #9 finished, so now I can start on one of the panels.

I added 3 circles to the urn. I don't think they "improve" the design, but I was thinking ahead to the quilting and thought if I didn't add something to the urn shape it would be an awfully large unquilted area?

Now to decide which panel to start...

  1. Ann, I love your fabric choice for the urn! The three little circles DO add a certain somethin'-somethin' -- very nice! The little doo-dads :-D just buzz around the flower stalks! I can't wait to see this block in proximity to the others. And now the panels!! What fun!

  2. Ann it looks great. I am almost finished with this block, I thought it was a hard one to do with all those little flowers! Maybe I will get it done now that I see how great yours looks.

  3. The urn fabric and spikey cacti (if that's what they are) blue greens are gorgeous together. I'm thinking I might need some practice on those fiddly flowers before tackling the block itself. Yours look beautifully done.

  4. I can see we love the same blue/greens! They are very very appealing. The vase is stunning and I love those cute little birds. Let us know which panel you choose!

  6. Dear speedy, speedy Ann,
Another great block, you do beautiful applique work. SMART girl thinking ahead to the quilting, I may need to borrow that idea myself.

  7. Thank you so much for the nice remarks about my block. I think this one is my favorite?

A couple of the other urns and the roof of the house have fairly large areas that will need quilting. I thought I could follow the stripes in the fabrics on a couple of them..and do scallops to mimic shingles in the roof..but this block kind of stumped me. That's why I added dots to this one.
I love that Kim's designs are so versatile that we can add bits or take some away and it still looks fine. :)

  8. Just lovely, Ann - love your fabric choice for the urn. I'm pleased to know there is someone else who thinks ahead to the quilting stage - not that I always get the quilting done, lol!

  10. Dear Ann, It's gorgeous, just like your other blocks!
Would you please post all 9 of them together? Do you use a light box and draw onto the fabric to be appliqued? i have a friend who does that, and it saves bunches of time... just curious. I hope you're very proud of these blocks, because they are absolutely stunning!

  13. Ann, another great block.

Brenda, depending on the fabric but I have traced the template shape onto my fabric that I am cutting the piece from using my light table.
    Yup, does save time.

  15. Thank you! I've decided I'm going to do the top panel next, because the fabric I ordered for one of the trees on the bottom panel hasn't arrived yet.

Brenda..I draw out the placement on my background fabric. I tape the pattern and my fabric to a large window, which I use as a light box. Once the placement has been marked I start tracing the shapes onto freezer paper so I'll have my templates ready to go.
I add numbers to some shapes on the pattern and mark the same number on my template for easy reference.

  16. Thanks, Ann! I draw mine, too, but I draw it on the back
Your fabric choices are so perfect! Would you mind sending us a photo of all 9 center blocks together? (I bet your ears burn when I tell my friends, "Ann Champion finished another great block!")
We are all amazed at you and your work...and your blog!
You're my inspiration. Thank you for sharing.
    hugs,
    Brenda
