More Lollypop Trees

I have been working away on my Lollypop Trees and have managed to finish six blocks.
I like the way they are turning out although sometime I think I spend too much time stressing over not having the exact fabric.

I am using the freezer paper on top method without marking on the fabric.
I like this method but I wish I could figure  out a way to see the fabrics on the block before I sew them down.
I think it would help make my fabric choices easier.

Now with Kim's Flower Garden pattern available I am in a hurry to finish this one.

  2. I create windows of a piece of freezer paper or light cardboard and place this over the fabric so I can see what is going to happen. Hopefully this will help.

  3. I too use freezer paper but I trace around the pattern piece with a Clover white marker pen and then remove the paper before sewing the piece in place. With is method you can play with the colour before the sewing gets started. The white line disappears when steam is applied in the ironing process.

  4. Have you tried putting the pieces up-side-down to audition them? I know the fabric would be the wrong side, but sometimes it's bright enough to get an idea of how it looks. Sometimes.

  5. This is just gorgeous Nancy, they're really beautiful! I think you're doing great just the way you operate.
The way I do it is to pick the fabrics for the big pieces, put them next to each other. Then collect the fabrics for the round bits and the smaller leaves to go with them. Trust me, if they go together when they're lined up, it will go well together when they're sewn up. Also, bear in mind that there are 16 blocks and the borders, so there is a lot of leeway. Believe in yourself - you're doing great! Kim McL

  7. Your blocks are beautiful and so are your fabric choices, there is definitely no need to stress about picking out fabrics, you're doing a wonderful job. I'm adding my squares between the lollipops as I go along and that even makes the process more fun. Never thought I would have this much fun picking out fabrics.

  9. I stress out too. The last block I tried picking out the fabric as I went, and ended up ripping out and replacing some, so now back to picking them all first!
