1st block done
Hello roseville fans,
May I present my first block of this fabulous quit. It took some time before I actually managed to get his block ready, fell down stairs and broke my foot, but here it is. I had a great time making this block, not too sure if I want to fussy cut or not. That process would take enormous amounts of fabric and I didn't buy that much in the States. If you look closely you can see that I cross stitch around the edges, don't like doing traditional applique, guess I'm a cross stitcher at heart. I just love this type of work and the added bonus of being a part of this blogging community is fantastic. Do any of you know of any other groups doing this type of project? I'm already a part of the Civil War Bridal Quilt and I would like to know of any other groups, so keep me updated. I'm looking forward to getting block 2 done, I think that I will use the same glittery fabric for all the vases, I'm a blingy type of girl!!

I like the look of the cross stitch for the applique. It looks great.
ReplyDeleteI'll bet it feels good to have "one down"? Your block is very pretty, and I like the stitching very much. It's another added texture. What kind/color thread did you use..it looks so nice with every fabric?
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing your next block! :)
Congrats on your first block! I love the idea of cross stitching around the edges, I'm a cross stitcher too, but never thought of doing that like this!
ReplyDeleteAnother different and wonderful "take" on Kim's pattern! What a good idea to use your favorite technique to enhance the block and make it your own.
ReplyDeleteStunning!!! Your fabric choices and colors are lovely. : ) And, I love your very own personal touch using cross stitching to do the hand applique.
ReplyDeleteGlad if your foot has healed and you are more mobile!
Beautiful block! I love to see everyone's personal touch on these blocks. On the Yahoo groups, a new group has started up that are doing the Rose of Sharon quilt, also a Yahoo group doing The Civil War Bride quilt - go check them out! Sue in warm Florida
ReplyDeleteLike Pam said, stunning! I think the non-fussy cut method will work really well. I think the cross-stitching is a great idea!
ReplyDeleteYour block is just beautiful, I absolutely love the cross stitch for the applique, I have never seen or heard of that method. How wonderful that we have this group to share. I'm glad that you are finally healing and able to stitch, can't wait to see more of your work.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful block. Love the sparkly fabric!!
ReplyDeleteI used DMC 334 for the cross stitching. So many colors to chose from and you''ll always find a perfect match.
ReplyDeleteI really like how your block turned out. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Lorene, love your choice of colours in the block, well done! And love your cross stiching too. The vase is really lovely. Keep it up. Have a great stitching Xmas. Kim McL
ReplyDeleteLorene, this looks great! I'm intrigued by your cross-stitching. Did you use a fusible first or will the x-stitch be enough to secure the edges?
ReplyDeleteThe colours are gorgeous and I'm fascinated by the look of the cross stitch, it looks really great, it must have been fun to do.
ReplyDeleteMessage for Debbie,
ReplyDeleteI use wonder under first and then x-stich the whole thing. I'm not sure if only x-stich will hold the thing together, but it's super easy to stitch if using wonder under.
