Hi you all,
I hope someone out there can help me : I've been coming across (in blogs) something called 'liquid band aid' , to put on fingertips damaged by sewing (i have a very painful hole from finally picking up my lollipops) . Could someone please give me the exact name, brand maybe, because my pharmacist (in Belgium) doesn't know what i am talking about.
Thank you. I promise a pic of my 4th block very soon.
It's called New-Skin and distributed by MedTech of Jackson WY USA - the website is www.newskinproducts.com
ReplyDeleteThe product you describe might be New Skin, distributed by Medtech in Jackson, WY. Their website is www.newskinproducts.com.
ReplyDeleteI have tried just about everything on sore fingers, from adhesive tape, band aids, little metal thimbles, this liquid bandage stuff, and stick-on plastic bits, etc. My current favorite is Thimble-It, plastic ovals which I cut down to fit the sore spot. It's only semi-helpful because it isn't really flexible enough. At night I use a vitamin ointment or Vaseline on the sore spots and hope that by morning a miracle will have happened! Good luck to you, and I'll be happy to hear any other remedies from others.
I've cut up a pair of leather gardening gloves and use double sided tape to apply a mini patch over the finger tips which get damaged by hand applique work. Another option is to actually use the finger of a leather gardening glove over the whole of the finger in question - the leather is a bit softer than a thimble
ReplyDeleteI have a box called "Liquid Bandage" by Johnson and Johnson and it says it is "Skin Crack Gel." I've had it for a while so maybe they don't make it anymore. But I agree with Marion that Thimble-It is my favorite form of protection and good to put on BEFORE you make the holes in your finger! I end up cutting them down a bit to fit the place on my finger but they stick really well. I tried the little round leather ones but found they didn't protect quite as well.
ReplyDeleteSuper glue works the same way as New skin and is easier to find.
ReplyDeleteI use it when my fingers get sore. It's safe to use..Surgeons use it on patients all the time. :)
Forgot to add..store the Super Glue in your freezer. It keeps it from drying out and lasts a long time.
ReplyDeleteThank you guys!!! On my way to the pharmacist now. Will let you know.
ReplyDeleteI've tried the liquid bandage and it didn't work very well for me.
ReplyDeleteI'm using a product called "`Thimble It" and cut the oval in half to make it more managable.
I've also used " Needle Grip It" and this is more flexible than the " Thimble It" but thinner and have to replace after each sewing session. Kim McL
I use several layers of the New Skin on my fingers. 3-4 layers letting it dry for a few seconds between layers. It is very soothing when your fingers are already sore. Somewhat good as preventing it. I have a leather glove that lost its pair so I cut the fingers tips off and use it as a thimble sometimes. You can cut to fit your finger and not to interfere with your finger joint. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteTry using Beeswax Bandage. It stops bleeding from needle pricks. I buy it at my quilt shop, or you can get it here.

Good luck.
Like Kim, I find the "Thimble It" much more efficient! It fully protects from water AND it healths at the same time.
ReplyDeleteGood luck
Nexcare also has a version of this liquid bandage. It will heal the soreness in one or two days of use. It is called Nexcare Crack Care and is in a small bottle like nail polish. Works great on sore hangnails as well.
ReplyDeleteI hope your finger is better by now!
Lots of good suggestions and ideas here. How is your finger, Francoise? What product did you find and try?
ReplyDeleteSo far, didn't get anything through the pharmacist but because of the answers i remembered i had thimble it lying around but didn't like it because it was always getting in the way. So i did as i read and very carefully cut a very small piece from it and i have to say : it works like a charm!! So once again you guys made me very happy!
ReplyDeleteSince you live in Belgium:
ReplyDeleteIf you can get your hands on a tube of Jecovitol Levertraanzalf (made in the Netherlands) it works great for healing. Put a small dab on the site or on a bandaid at night (or around the clock) and it will feel a lot better, very soon. It does not PREVENT, but it does heal. For prevention I recommend Thimble Its, beats any regular thimble.
They actually peel off fairly cleanly, and
ReplyDeleteLiquid Band Aid are certainly no worse than an ordinary bandage.
