I Met My Deadline

Here is my first panel of the Flower Pots quilt. Setting a self-imposed deadline was an excellent idea; I sewed morning, noon (lunch break at work) and night. When I finally finished the last stitches this morning and stepped back to look at it, I was pleased. I still have a lot to learn but it sure is fun.
I started stitching the flowers on December 30; the stems and the pot were already done. So it took roughly 3 weeks which isn't too bad.
Most of the applique was done after front-basting by hand, which sounds like a lot of work. But I don't mind doing it, and having most of the flowers basted let me carry it around and work on it without having to run to my 3rd floor studio to pin new pieces on. I think I'll continue to to do that.
Onward!

  2. Absolutely gorgeous. You've helped me figure out why my work doesn't sparkle. It's the use of the aqua. I love the swirl in the basket.

  3. I DO like that green background fabric. It really provides an individualized approach to this pattern. And the fabric you used for the stem was a great choice too. You are defintiely off to a great start with this quilt.

  4. Your stem is fun, 'dash'ing up the block.

  5. Congratulations, Lee. You made your own deadline! The panel is completely charming and will look fabulous in your living room. I so agree with Vicky; the stem is terrific, and the way you used the pot fabric was such a good idea. Way to go, friend!

  6. Wonderful, Leland! Another great choice for background fabric that is very appealingly spring-looking combined with the other fabrics while I sit here looking at swirling snow and cold out the window. I just love your stem fabric. I'm sure a deadline helps to get it done. I am grinding along on my Stars and Sprigs blocks so it's nice to know it's taking someone else a while to get their applique done too.

I set little "goals' for myself all of the time. It gives an extra good feeling of accomplishment when you meet them?

  13. Love the way you cut the bowl--great use of the fabric, and it stands out so nicely against the background. I like how pretty your background makes the pinks & purples look, but is still dark enough to let you use white/lighter fabrics. And what a fun stem!
