Pats Heart Quilt

Here I am... I'm stuck folks!

I need to add a 9.5" border so it fits my wall. I'd like to add the Square in a square hearts.. but should I also do the leaves? or just hearts? or something else?

here is the original...

  1. First whatever you choose will be perfect. I love the idea of the squares with hearts and I would continue your leaf theme to the edge.

  2. I think it needs the square in a square border. Just so you don't have hearts next to hearts. It's repetitive enough that it will almost allow the eye to rest.

  3. First of all, I love that you are doing this one Pat and love the color scheme you chose! I had bought the "Quilt Romance" book recently in the hope that this quilt might be my first attempt at a Kim McLean design. I look forward to seeing how you finish this up.

For me, the hearts you have are already so prominent that I think more hearts in the squares would take the focus away from them. I would probably stick with the next (plain) square-in-square and dots border using the coral fabrics you used for the clamshells in the square centers. I think the dots will make a great finishing edge around the quilt. Or maybe even finish with a clamshell binding edge!

But like Judi, I've seen your quilt designs and know that whatever you choose to do will be fabulous!! Which reminds me I've got a couple of the APQ radio shows to catch up on......

  4. I like the idea of the plain square int square...perhaps you could quilt in some hearts so they don't fight so much with the center...

  5. Love your colors even more now that it's farther along, Pat. I think the color choices for the next border can ensure that it doesn't detract from the hearts you already have. I like the idea of quilting hearts into the squares. Are you thinking one border would supply the entire 9.5"? Or could you add a small strip (maybe the darker aqua?) to separate them visually before you add whatever border you decide on? I agree your patterns are always outstanding so it will be great!

  6. This is stunning. The colors are absolutely fantastic. I agree with Sally about a small coral border before the applique border. Then I vote for the square in a square hearts and the leaves. That being said, whatever you do, this quilt is going to still be awesome.
