top lollipops DONE

Hi every one,

So, not only did I finish my top a while back, but yesterday I managed to sandwich it, ready to start the quilting in october or so when it's getting colder again. I prefer to quilt when it's cold and rainy. But for now spring finally got here.

As you can see I finished the outer border with rectangles instead of the 'required' squares. That's to give me some ease in quilting and to have enough under the binding. I like having a little extra in the last border, gives me something to cut off.

I like my quilt a whole lot but I am very pleased I didn't do the 16 blocks, since it is huge as it is.

To Jan, from 'bemused' : how is yours coming along on your red background?

See you, have a great summer in the north (or winter in the south),

Hello out there!

I managed to sew the 9 blocks with the sashings and prepped all of the borderblocks. At once over several weeks. I also have some borderblocks sewn already(?)

Meanwhile i was thinking of the cornerblocks (multitasking, you know how it goes)
I went for the regular applique (the block with the stem) first, but then i decided i could as well finish up that fabric 'serendipity' by Paula Nadelstern since i only had some serious swiss cheese left of it and make the inner circles, also the needleturn funky not exactly circle way. Question : the left (on red) or the right (on leftover squares) on the top.
What do you think? Personally i think i go for the red squares now, but it wouldn't be the first time i change my mind. So i would like to hear from you. (who wouldn't)

And then, i have another question i hope you can help me with : my design wall is made of insulation plates covered with that sticky fabric from clover you buy in precut packs, 1 size only. I think it seriously needs some washing. Can i do that? Because of course, i do not have the packaging anymore and i don't know of a store here that carries that so i could go take a peek.

To all of you, i wish you very happy seasonal holidays and a magnificent 2012 (already?) with plenty of time to do what you enjoy most.

Finally

Hi,
So I finally got around to put everything up on my designwall. First I thought i was going to do the cornerstones in the red background, but now i think i'll just stick with the coloured squares also.
I feel kind of proud of myself to have done everything from my stash, with some quite old fabrics that i don't even like anymore, because i really do like the result.

I'm working on the borderblocks now, but have nothing to show so that will be for next time.

Enjoy whatever you're doing!

Hello every one

This is my block 8 from the lollipops. I'm already sewing my 9th and final block and also keeping busy with sewing the sashings.
I'll have to wait at least until the kids are going back to school on september 1st before i can prep the borderblocks.
Also already thinking hard what quilt i will start next.

I hope you have fun doing whatever you do.

Block 7

Here's my block 7 of Kims Lollipops.
It's the first one with some pink in it, as Kim suggested. And I made some more sashings.
Blocks 8 and 9 are already prepped. Will start prepping the border blocks soon.

On another note : is someone going to the 'Festival of Quilts' in Birmingham UK by any chance? I'm going. Maybe we could meet up?

For now : enjoy what you are doing.

The last few weeks i have been busy cutting and drawing hundreds of squares for the sashings, since i will be handsewing them.
Put them all in a paper bag so to take them randomly out for sewing.

After sewing a couple of rows i tried it out between the blocks, and guess what : i like it a lot. And i am sure it will even get better.
I'm thinking red cornerstones, same as the background from the blocks.

Enjoy the sewing,
Françoise

Peek at pink

Couldn't wait to show with the pink. I love it.
Thank you so much Kim for the suggestion!

Hello everybody,

Yesterday i was able to go to Veldhoven, Holland, to see the OEQC quilt exhibit, despite a severe cold. (what quilter would let a cold come between her and beautiful quilts to see!)
Amongst 36 Baltimore quilts that had hung in Houston last autumn, there he (she?) was : Kim's quilt in person. As you can see, i took a couple of close-up photo's and was even able to take a shot from the backing that wasn't covered by the decor.
I was so glad to see all those Baltimore quilts, it really was worth it.

I'm still working -again, now that i finished quilting- on block 6 of the Lollipops. Hope to show pics soon.

Enjoy the sewing,
Françoise

block 5

I was truly shocked to find i didn't post since early january. But here it is, my block #5.
For the leaves i used what is mostly used as a background. But since my background is this nice red, i figured i would use my 'background' fabrics in a different way. So far, i do like where this is taking me, but still very anxious to see the outcome because i still don't know where i am heading.
I also like my sometimes quirky circles, doing them the needleturn way. I feel it fits the playfullness of the quilt to be.
Have fun.
