These Lollipops are So Sweet!

Oh, I know how naughty I am - I just had to have a little play to find if if there are any differences in design preparation - oh, yes there are as I found out very quickly! Those lovely big pieces are so nice to handle, but perhaps take a little more thought fussy cutting and having just the right fabrics on hand! I'm really happy I have tried - now it gives me a better understanding of what the different girls are doing - I wonder if I will get one complete block out of the fabrics I have on hand - it will be fun trying. Have a little peak at my blog to see what you think of my time-management ideas - oh, I wonder if I will have this all stitched down by next weekend - that's the whole block I mean, lol!

A Very Long Border!

... and what a lot of fun! I am nearly there on the first half of the first border of Stars and Sprigs! Oh, that doesn't sound very far does it - maybe I really do need to make a Lollypop cushion for a Show and Tell variation! I really do want one! I'm thinking maybe I could become a very boring Blogger for a long time - I've set up my 'Studio' for the convenience of Glorious Applique at this point in time. I have started and am going to become very ruthless about culling my fabrics. DS, David has instructed me that I am not to store any more fabrics in the shed - hmmm, seems a nice clean space to me and it is a very big shed - there will still be plenty of room for the lawn-mower and the edge trimmer!
I am really enjoying this blog - oh, I think I have said that before! Isn't it amazing that two people can instigate so much fun and friendship for so many - a big thank you to the whole team!
I have talked about applique related subjects on my regular blog - please pop over to visit if you like http://lurlineg.blogspot.com/

All is Well That Ends Well!

On Wednesday, Dear Mother (ggrrrr! - 92 years old in 6 days time) decided to pour some water from her drinking glass into the vase with the kangaroo paws - a small journey but quite a few obstacles to encounter. Luckily I was within hearing distance and heard a noise like a little lamb squeeling 'I've fallen. I've fallen'! Oh dear, I'm home alone with her, what do I do! Cushioned Mum to make her comfortable and then phoned DD who thought she would be able to drag Mum from the floor - what a little Champion - she did it! Bruises aplenty - thanks goodness, no broken bones.

My sewing basket was just to the side and guess what - yes, water all over my glued applique! Would you believe, a sponge with a dry hand towel and out to the clothesline in the sunshine and here it is - all perfect! What a lucky day for us! There's lots and lots of sprigs to do and not one was lost.

I'm playing nurse to little granddaughter at the moment, so I'll quietly sneak back and add a few more stitches!

Happy weekend everyone - hugs - Lurline♥

Lots of Vines!

What a super Blog this is - I am enjoying it so much! You Girls are so inspiring - I keep thinking 'I'll do that one, and that one, too' lol! I am just entranced in the evenings when I sit and stitch - so comforting with the heater on in these horrible evenings weatherwise!
The brown stems/vines are a much softer brown than is showing here - I have used a great fabric Suzani by Michelle Marvig an Australia designer - I have been asked about it, a beautiful texture with pretty light aqua dots, I will show you a better pic next posting! I have just received a package as I am posting this - yes, from Glorious Color in the USA, so we all know what it is, can't wait to show you these next time too!
Happy weekend everyone - hugs - Lurline♥

Slowly, but Surely!

That's the way it has been - very, very enjoyable, too! I really do love playing with the pretty, bright repros - as you will notice, I do not use a lot of fabrics of the Civil War era, a little too dull for me.
I made some stems using the Clover bias maker - then reverted back to the Hera marker. It's hard to teach an old dog new tricks, lol! I really like using a striped fabric for stems and this is a real pretty brown by Australian designer, Michelle Marvig - soft colour and lovely in a nice texture, too. It is from the Suzani range.

Look closely at the centre - you will see a little cross made with stitches - this is how I line up the block when I trim back. I do use a blue pen at times and try to remove it as soon as possible. I have had only one disaster and that was in the days when the brown pens were around - thanks goodness it was able to be rectified!
I am not really proud of my stitches and shouldn't be showing closeups, but at least I am getting something done with my poor little chicken wings - at least I am managing to achieve nice little points still!

I have been using the freezer paper method to do my applique - sometimes the weight of the iron takes it's toll on my arm - I would love to achieve Janet's results using her method, but somehow I can't get the fibre out from the back of the shape - just had a thought- maybe I should soak it for a little while longer in soapy water - I'll try that! If anyone can help, please do.
My goodness, I haven't done a lot of talking as of late - I am having a really comfortable day today, so it is nice to chat!
Happy weekend - hugs - Lurline♥

A Happy Ending!

It is so lovely to be on another ' Kim Journey'. This little treasure below is part of All Brights - a long story, but a lovely one. Many years ago I had these orphan blocks - Christine was doing the same quilt. I thought I'd never finish mine, so I gave them to her - too pretty to sit in a cupboard for years.
Not too long after, Christine showed this quilt on her blog and I thought - oh, my goodness, how beautiful - it made me a little sad I had given the blocks away, but I was so happy Christine had made good use of them!
A very short time later the mailman arrived at the door with this parcel - tears ran down my face as I opened it and I had to breath deep. I decided to knit an edge for it and not surprisingly I have called the quilt 'True Friendship'. Dear Mum, nearly 92, now cuddles up under it in this cold weather . Thanks, Christine - thanks, Kim!
Another journey started - the very first block of Stars & Sprigs. I'm keeping Janet of Quiltslott company - now that's a hard act to follow, lol! Oh, to be in such company. I have chosen to make this one in reproduction fabrics with a vintage white background and French General fabric for the background to the stars.

Thanks to Pam for giving this opportunity to share Kim's work - I've just got a feeling there will be lots of others to join us!
Happy weekend!
