Lollipop Trees Start

Yep, a new project.  And one that I've been excited to get started on.
The Lollipop Trees Quilt by Kim Mclean.  Some of you may remember that I had begun preparations on the Roseville Album Quilt, but other projects with deadlines got in the way.  In the meantime,  priorities have changed, and the "to do" list has been re-drafted.  Working on the Lollipops is a way for me to work with wonderful colors, and it's an easy quilt to applique, leaving some energy over to work on some other projects  ( or so she thinks...)

6 background blocks are prepared and stitched with a central cross done by machine to help with placement. I'm starting with block #1, and using the starter pack I purchased for the Roseville Album quilt.  Just a few minutes of play and I already know that I'll be adding to this pack!

...and now the hardest part of making this quilt I think....

color selection!

warm and cool?

oh my, low contrast...hmm...now what?
let the texture do the talking?

Lots to think about, lots to play with.  Easy?  Hmmm...nope!  Fun?  Yes!
Just hope I can get at least one block prepared so that I have something to bring to the Kim McClean Bee in Haarlem's De Sampler's next session.  I've missed two meetings and can't wait to finally join these kind and creative ladies again and share in the fun!

In the meantime, I'm off to ponder some more colors.....

Lollypop Trees

It's a long time I haven't published anything... but I was reading your posts:)

To be honnest, I prefer to knit during the cold months of the year... and to sew during the warm months! So I'm back and nothing can stop me!!!

Block n°1 finished

and block n°2 in progress...

What I love with this quilt it's like a coloring book where I can chose the colors I want!

Number one all done!

Isn't it great when you finish something - even if it is only one block! I had a great feeling of achievement when I finished this first block. It seems like each block in this quilt is a separate mini project - works well for me.

I'm happy with the result. I chose a lighter colour brown for the trunk and branches than I had originally intended, but I wanted it to not get lost and this seems to fit the criteria. It is Moda essential dots in gold.

And since so much of my prep is already done - I am ready to attack the second block.

Looking forward to starting it, but I have a few things on the go so not quite sure when that will be. I hope this blog is around for awhile!!

I would like to say a big THANK YOU to all who posted comments last time. My reply function doesn't seem to work the same way as it does on my own blog so replying has been difficult. I am working on it. Please don't think I'm ignoring you, I really appreciate your kind comments. I'm also really enjoying seeing all the other versions of these quilts that are being posted. I have to say that there is nothing here that I don't like. The level of creativity is awesome.

Bye for now,

Deb

My first post

I have long been a fan of KM's work. I love her colours and funky shapes. So when the Lollypop trees first came out I bought the pattern and a starter pack. I decided I wanted a bit of depth to the design so chose the chocolate aboriginal dots as a background. I cut out all the main shapes, basted the 16 large blocks, and then got distracted and forgot about it. I guess that was about 2 years ago. Your inspirational work as displayed on the blog inspired to pull it out and start sewing! Haven't got far yet but a start is better than no start.

I hope you are having a peaceful Christmas break.

Cheers, Deb
