Well, I finally finished the redesign of my in-laws 50th anniversary quilt.  It took me about 18 months to figure our how to redesign the quilt, and then accomplish the redesign.  I am getting ready to send it out for quilting.  It is pieced and appliqued, so I have considered both machine and hand quilting.  Any thoughts about it would be appreciated.  Also, I wrote a poem to go with the quilt, not sure how to incorporate that into this heirloom.  Again thoughts and ideas would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks Kim for all your inspiration.

  1. It depends on how long the poem is, it would look nice, written around the white border in stitchery?

  2. It's gorgeous! I would put the poem on the label. And I'd have it machine appliqued.

  3. Marvellous, what a gorgeous 50th anniversary quilt. I'd put the poem on the label before quilting, it will be permanent then. Hand quilting is lovely but it does take a lot of time. I have mine machine quilted these days, otherwise I won't have time to do all the quilts I have in mind, a lot of stuff seems to be in the " not in my lifetime" category these days. I'd do a lot of feather quilting in the white border, may be do some trapunto after?

  4. Your quilt is a beautiful way to adapt Kim's designs. I agree with Kim that the white space cries out for elaborate feathering.

  5. Gorgeous. Depending on how intricate your quilting is, you could incorporate their names, the names of their descendants, and the date of their marriage into the white space around the edges.

  6. Go with the machine quilting so you can give the gift sooner. It will still be beautiful. Well done on the design.

  7. what a beautiful quilt, one of those that I wish I had time to do :) I vote for machine quilting as well (I'm partial...since I'm a machine quilter.) There are so many beautiful things that machine quilting can accomplish that just doesn't come across as well with hand quilting.

  8. The choice of using DMC is perfect. I love that you have quilted over the applique, that is very brave and really give the whole thing a uniuqe look... and as you said, I'm sure it has a great feel. Well done. Keep going. Love it! Teresa at third floor quilts
