QUILTING COMPLETED

So the quilting really does make the quilt.  I had this one machine quilted by Three Sisters Quilting in New Paris, Indiana.

  It is amazing to see what they did, especially with all the white spaces.  Now I have to put on the binding and give the quilt back to my in-laws 1 and 1/2 years after their 50th Wedding anniversary.
I wrote a poem to go with this quilt and included the ending of the poem for those who might enjoy it.

 " so when you decide to call it a night,

 You'll say your night prayers and snuggle up tight.

Or if your bodies just need a good rest,

Head on upstairs and get into your nest.

Climb under this quilt and know were all near,

to keep you both warm or blot up a tear.

In spirit, we are always close to your hearts,

though many long miles keep us apart.

Mom and Dad we all love you and we thank you with glee,

for the gift of our lives and the Bobrowski family."

Thank you all for your inspiring and kind words and well as your shared projects that kept me inspired years into the project.  Lets keep the encouragement going and bring the beauty and love of quilting into the generations that follow.  Pete

My Roseville is finished!!!! yippee......

This quilt took me quite awhile, I made many quilts while working steadly on this one.  It's all hand needleturn applique and hand quilted by "little Oh Me"....... Kaffe fabrics except for a few hand dyed fabrics.  I changed the design on the outside border for what I call "the littld hands" I didn't care for those at all.  The background fabric is a white on white cotton. It's Queen Size.  Crosshatch plus around many of the applique pieces.  I am so glad I stuck with it and it's finished!!!!!any questions, just contact me.  Oh yes, taking into account that I traveled a lot and worked full time while making this, I constantly worked on it in the evenings.  From first needle to last stitch, took me 3 yrs 2 months and 18 days....

Hand Quilting

It has been so long since I posted here. I hope everyone has begun the New Year well. I just wanted to post a couple of photo's of my version of Kim's gorgeous Flower Garden quilt.

After spending about 18 months putting this quilt together, I decided I wanted to take my time quilting it. I am using six different coloured perle 8 threads and very densely hand quilting across the entire quilt. My rows are 1/4 inch apart and that is making the quilt very textural and bubbly!!!

The quilting shows up really well on the back...

I have one long panel to go and then the borders. It takes a while, but I am not in any hurry. Hand work is worth the wait don't you think?

Chloe's Quilt

The story of how my first quilt, Chloe's quilt has come about is as follows.

My name is Carla and I live in Tropical North Queensland outside the small town of Bartle Frere. My husband and I have a small farm there.

Beginning 2011 we had cyclone Yassi come through which did a lot of damage outside, but most importantly took out a small vanilla plantation.

A few months later our beloved dog Chloe, at only 4 years old was diagnosed with a malignant colon cancer which was a terrible blow. As my husband has to work away from home a lot I decided I needed to do something for myself to help me to deal with this situation.

Inspired by the movie Julie & Julia I thought to teach myself something new, challenging and give myself a year to do it. (Like Julie in the movie cooking every recipes from Julia Child's book within the year)

A quilt I thought and stumbled on the Glorious colour website, could not look at any other option but Roseville Album by Kim Mclean, was it even possible to make something so beautiful? A starters pack and pattern was ordered and I started my quilt June 2011.

What a journey it has been, I kept going and going coming to the end I decided to take the first 3 blocks out and rebalance the quilt.

Hand appliqued, machine pieced, hand quilted and finished early this year. Last but not least Chloe is happy and healthy which is just a miracle!  Without the inspiration of Kim's stunning work and designs and all glorious applique contributors I feel I would not have pulled it off.

Well, I have completed more than I realised!

I was ready to organise my next couple of blocks for appliquéing and I  thought I would put the completed ones on the design wall. I hadn't realised how many I had finished. The photos are not the best and the layout is a bit random at the moment.
