Block number 11 finished

Good morning,

I hope that you're all having a wonderful day today, the sun is shining here and it's very warm and muggy. I finished my 11th lollipop block. I can't wait to finish number 12 because then I can add another row to the quilt. Putting them together with the little squares as I go along.

I just love the beginning process of each block, picking out the fabrics, the fussy cutting, each block is such an adventure. When I get the 12 block finish I will send an updated picture of the entire quilt. Five more blocks to go.

Happy stitching,

Hey every one!

I finally finished block 6 of the Lollipops.
I already prepped the next 3 blocks , sorry, no photo, and i did what Kim suggested , that is, incorporate some pink. And how right she was!!
It was exactly what the blocks needed, so i am very pleased.

I will show some photo's with the pink next time.

I finally definitly(i think) decided that i will only be making 9 blocks instead of 16. That's way to big. I had some other reasons too, but somehow i forgot what they were. I just remember the decision. Does that happen to you too?

Happy sewing,
Françoise

Made the deadline !!!

Well I made the May 20th deadline and my AQS Des Moines entry is at the post office with today's date stamped on it. I won't know if the quilt is accepted until July 20th. I'm going back and adding more hand quilting. Probably will add another line around or echo each block to fill in some of the bigger areas and may add swirling line on outside border. My thinking is when something is so heavily appliqued there needs to be just as much quilting to give it balance. I could leave it as it is but I think it will do better in competition with the extra hand quilting.
I going to start working on 2 of my own applique designs that I started last year but stopped to work on this quilt. I have plenty of other projects to finish, mostly all applique. I will keep reading this blog and commenting. I also need to finish Kim's Basket Medallion quilt, which I have the center done (this is posted last August?). I'm also posting for my friend, Karen on the CWB blog site as we both made our deadline. It's been a fun journey !!!

Latest completed block

Here is the next block that I have finished. It was really fun to plan as well as complete this one. I am currently working on another block that I've modified to include a couple more Sunbonnet Sues. I am planning a smaller version of RA and hope to have my blocks together soon, hopefully early next month. I'll keep you posted.

Scandinavian appliquers

Hi Everyone,

I'm so excited to find this blogsite : http://danishapplique.blogspot.com/
Perhaps a sister blog to Glorious Applique? These ladies are just starting their applique journey, they've been picking up lots of interesting ideas from GA.
I don't speak Danish or any of the Scandinavian languages, so if you are conversant in these, perhaps you'd like post/ comment? For the rest of us, we can always look at the photos!
Kim McLean

Hello everybody,

Yesterday i was able to go to Veldhoven, Holland, to see the OEQC quilt exhibit, despite a severe cold. (what quilter would let a cold come between her and beautiful quilts to see!)
Amongst 36 Baltimore quilts that had hung in Houston last autumn, there he (she?) was : Kim's quilt in person. As you can see, i took a couple of close-up photo's and was even able to take a shot from the backing that wasn't covered by the decor.
I was so glad to see all those Baltimore quilts, it really was worth it.

I'm still working -again, now that i finished quilting- on block 6 of the Lollipops. Hope to show pics soon.

Enjoy the sewing,
Françoise

Update on The Bizzy Bird Farm

Just thought I would let you know that I have outlined the entire Roseville quilt and have the binding on. I have used exactly 400 yards of quilting thread, had about 10 inches left on the spool when I finished hand quilting. I'm planning on doing a circle type stencil between the blocks and panels, starting on this tonight. It just needs something more to fill in the space. I will show a block later of what I chose to quilt. Oh yes, I did count the circles, I have 630. I sure did appreciate the help of my Mother and friends with all the circle basting that was done for me. Just in case you were wondering, I use a 23" quilting hoop, switch to a 11" X 17" ?? oval hoop on the borders, YLI quilting thread, one thimble and have 4 very callus & sore fingers. I use a emery board to file away the roughness on my fingers to keep it from snagging the threads and use a medicated hand cream, Gold Bond with Aloe every night when I go to bed (yes I do sleep). LOL

FINALLY COMPLETE

Well, here it is. My first glorious applique project complete thanks to all of your encouragement, ideas, techniques, and inspiration. And it is done just in time for Spring and Mother's Day.
Thank you all for your inspiration, and support. You make a difference even though we have never met. Now it is off to one of Kim's inspired projects.

With gratitude,

Pete

Help!
I am now on the long bottom square
the one with the 2 trees.
I need suggestions on how to applique the
trees.
I cut freezer paper out with the tree,
also marked it on my background
someone suggested that I not cut the outline out
of my tree fabric.  Lots of bulk there,
any suggestions will be appreciated!!!!!
thanks Paula
