I finished my LollyPop Trees quilt this week. I started this quilt October 2010 so it took me 14 months working intermittently to complete.
Now on to Flower Garden. I purchased grey clover to use as my background but now I notice the pattern is directional and I can't decide how to cut the top and bottom borders so the pattern will all go in the same direction. Should I piece them ? I think this is the fabric Kim used as her background - wonder what she did? Nancy

The quilt looks greate. Wonderful eye for details.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your finish. It is beautiful. Lovely colors.
ReplyDeleteI can see your problem with the directions. I wish I had a solution, but I used the spot fabric for my Flower Garden witch had no directional. I hope you figure it out.
Nancy, I think by cutting the top and bottom borders crosswise of the grain and piecing them will work. That way they will line up with the rest if you cut the side borders on the lengthwise grain. The borders are so busy that the seams will not show. Your Lollypop Trees are just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh how wonderful. I'll send you my address for the shipping. vbg Who will be the lucky one to receive this one. Now I know why I haven't seen you on WordswithFriends.
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful!! It's make me smile!!
ReplyDeleteYou inspire me to get mt act together and finish mt FIRST block! Jan

ReplyDeleteJust beautiful!
ReplyDeletepiękna aplikacja
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful Nancy! Well done on finishing, it looks gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you are doing the Flower garden, I did use the grey clover. I don't think I worried about the directional, although I can't remember what I did. As Judoth said, the borders are pretty busy, so the directional may not be a problem, hope you bought more fbric to do match the directional! Love to see your blocks soon. Kim McL
Wow, your appliqued quilt is amazing, so colorful. Well done
ReplyDeletebeautiful and I know how much work that was. Big Congrats!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSwoon! Your lollipops are amazing!!
ReplyDeleteYour Lolipops is fabulous! I look forward to seeing youir progress on Flower Garden.
ReplyDeleteIf it were me, I'd have the clover bottoms point towards the bottom edge of the border. Once laying on the bed all of the clovers will be oriented correctly. :)
Hi Ann, good to see you on screen. Once on the bed....do peeps really put the quilts neatly on the bed???
DeleteWonderful!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful Nancy. If you are doing Flower Garden I hope you bought extra fabric, as the cutting of background blocks assumes pattern..(if there is one)...is multi directional... as blogged here.......http://australiangloriousapplique.blogspot.com/2011/09/memory-garden-1.html.
ReplyDeleteIf it is heavily quilted , you wont notice any discrepancy however. The Applique Motifs of Flower Garden are so spectacular, that viewers wont even notice the background! Good Luck.
I'm just a bit jealous of your quilt, lol. It looks sensational. Congratulations on the finish.
