Kim & Keiko Flower Garden

More blocks...

And and the first panel done (I'm making 5 panels in total)...

The panel is almost 66inches x 10 1/5, not so easy to photograph!!

I could rave on forever over how much I adore Kim McLeans amazing appliques and Keiko Goke's marvellous fabrics!

  5. beautiful work. Did you piece all of the background first and than cut to size or are you making the background as you go? thanks.

  6. Wow, Cathy! I was definitely surprised by your pieced backgrounds when I first saw them. Then I grew to love the blocks. And now seeing the panels, I am SUCH a fan. What a wonderful eye you have. I'm curious if you've had any issues with shadowing or if you're careful about selecting a fabric for the flowers that would cover that?

  8. These look great, an inspired work for sure. Cathy, who knows who or how your work will then inspire another. Just wondering if the 5 panels will then be put together for 1 quilt. Do you plan to sash between them. I'm enjoying the process

  9. Thank you everyone. Sally, I'm not sure I know what shadowing is, but I would love to!! Pete, yes I am only doing 5 panels from this pattern. I am still deciding whether to sash them, or just join them as is, without any sashing. I guess I may wait until I have more panels done and see what they look like on my design wall. I know that I won't be adding borders at all. What would you do?

  11. I am totally fascinated at your choice of background! So creative....it's wonderful and inspirational at the same time. When I start my version, I am going to look at piecing the background as well. AWESOME!!!

  12. Shadowing is when the background fabric shows through the top fabric. Some parts of your background strips are darker so I was wondering if you were choosing darker/brighter flower fabrics purposely to keep anything underneath from showing through. Having had that problem myself I am hoping to learn from what others do!

  14. Ah thank you Sally, I see what you mean. I guess I hadn't really given it much thought. Mainly I've used the whiter, lighter colours on the background with the brighter and darker colours for the appliques. That purple/grey solid may show through though, I will keep an eye on it. Thanks so much for explaining, I really appreciate it.
