Blizzard Block

Greetings from the snowbound Midwest in the U.S. As bad as it is here, I am concerned about our Australian friends in the path of the cyclone. We could all use less weather drama. I hope you all all safe and will remain so.

A few days ago I finished my third (pink) corner block for Roseville. I rather dreaded all those fussy "hands," but in the end they were fun to do and very satisfying. You can see the three corners I have finished so far, and I have cut out the fourth. But I have to take a break for a time to make a baby quilt for my third grandchild, due at the end of April.

I'll be following the rest of you in the coming weeks. Happy stitching.

  2. Love your color palet, so soft....I'm snowed in also, here in southern IOWA. I have lived here for 22 years and our road is blocked with snow drifts about 6ft high, this is the first time that has happened. Guessing we got about 12"+ snow. I feel for the Aussies, but I know I can handle the snow much better than a category 5 Cyclone. I'm getting much done on my bottom panel.
    Keep up the beautiful work.

  3. Your blocks are beautiful Marion, I love the colours and the fabric for the peacock is just perfect.
I have kept the news on today for reports of the cyclone and am keeping Australia in my thoughts.

  5. Marion, your colors just flow into one another! It's beautiful.
One report has likened this cyclone to Hurricane Katrina here in the US. I pray those in Oz are better prepared than our Gulf coast.

  8. Marion, Sorry to be "late"--I thought I commented this a.m. but must have skipped a step. Well done! They all work together so beautifully. I have bird envy. As usual.
The colors are very spring-like. Will it ever come?

  12. Hi Marion,
What's happening in the world. Cyclones, winter snow storms, will it ever end?
I absolutely LOVE your bird. His/her wings are great and the tail! love your fabric choice for this bird. Keep up the good work, being snowed in will give you plenty of sewing time, that's got to be a plus? take care.
greetings from Holland, where spring thinks it's time to make an appearance.

  13. Beautiful Marion! Love your soft colours, looks stunning. I'm glad you are enjoying the process. The other one that is a bit pesky would be the cactus flower basket.
So far, no one has been killed in the cyclone, a lot of damaged properties though. Mostly uninsured because the insurance companies don't cover these things apparently. May be they only do nice clement weather when all is well!
I saw on TV all the snow in the US, loooks pretty but don't fancy the snow shovelling though!
It's been very hot & have lived with the air con for a few days now.
Hang in there everyone, do lots of applique till all these nasties come to pass. Cheers, Kim McL

  14. Thank you all for your kind comments. Working in this softer palette makes me uneasy when I so admire the brighter ones others are working with. If it makes you think of spring, so much the better. Being snowed in isn't ALL bad, is it?
I'm horrified at Kim's info that victims of the cyclone won't get help from insurance. What the heck is insurance for? I hope we can all move beyond the present disasters and get on with shoveling or clean up and then get back to the pleasures of stitching.

  15. Your corner blocks are an inspiration. Now that I see yours, these don't look as daunting. Can't wait to get to the corners. Great job - really beautiful stitching!

  16. What a pretty block! I love the colors you're using. They give a whole different look to the design. So soft and feminine.

We're still digging out from the crazy snow storm here.
My heart goes out to our Aussie friends that are getting hit with such terrible weather lately.

  17. Your blocks are so beautiful, the pastel look on the green polkadot scream springtime here. After receiving over 14 inches of snow yesterday, they are so refreshing to look at. Thank you for the inspiration
