Hearts & Flowers - My 2010 project

I noticed some of you were working on variations of the Hearts & Flowers quilt, so I thought I'd post some pictures of mine. I started this quilt (along with my dear friend) right after Christmas in 2009 and it took me most of 2010 to finish it. My goal was to complete it before the Houston Quilt Fest last October - which I did. I love the way it turned out and decided to hang it in my stairway. I've been quilting for about 15 years, but this quilt was my first foray into these fabrics from Fassett and so many others and I had a lot of fun with it. This was also my first real hand applique! (I'd done some on the machine, but it just isn't the same). Also, I hand quilt all my quilts! That's why it takes me a year or more to finish one!
Now back to the Roseville... almost finished another block today. I'm loving it.

  2. Teresa your quilt is beautiful! Since I do not do any hand quilting, I am always in awe of those of you who do. And you make me feel so much better for how long it is taking me to do the Sprigs blocks by hand! Between a new grandchild and a nasty cold, applique has not been at the top of my list lately! How wonderful to see everyone else's work.

  5. Rick-rack! Brilliant. It looks wonderful. I do everything by hand too-definitely slows me down!

  6. Thanks everybody for these comments. KIM: I use heat resistant templar and magic sizing to turn the edges of the applique (Karen Kay Buckley taught me). It makes really clean edges and very sharp points. You have definetely done something useful - magical really. I love your patterns. They have inspired me so much and I work on them every spare moment (and even some I can't spare)... And your patterns make me so happy! You have a way to bring out the joy thru design. Thank you.

  9. In addition to seconding the comments above, let me add my congratulations on the hand quilting. Kim's quilts seem to deserve it, don't you think?

  10. What a beautiful quilt! I love your colors, and the rick-rack is a fun addition. Your fussy cuts are wonderful.
I do my applique and quilting by hand too. It takes a long time, but you get to really enjoy the fabrics as you stitch. :)
