Circles for Flower Pots
Aren't these cute? I'm looking ahead to the outer border of Flower Pots and decided to start appliqueing the double circles. I think they'll be a lot of fun--they were fun to cut out. Marion encouraged me to skip the front-basting step and try glue dots--I'm a convert!
Now I have 2 blocks plus these circles to take on a one-week vacation (thanks for the San Diego quilt shop tips) which is ridiculous. But we hate to be unprepared, don't we?

Great background color.
ReplyDeleteJust wondering, are you appliqueing the two circle layers together first and then appliqueing the unit to the background?
These are very cute, Lee. Choosing fabrics had to be a delight. Denise asks a good question. I expect either method works, but I'd be interested to hear what others do and think.
ReplyDeleteI love the colors of your block. I always cut out my whole block and use glue dots to baste everything down before I start stitching. It is great to be able to see everything put together and I find it so relaxing to be able to just sit and stitch!
ReplyDeleteYou've picked such pretty fabric combos! i've never tried glue in my quilts..but I know a lot of people really like it. I say whatever works for you is the right way to do it?
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you've planned a lot of hand work for your vacation? It's better to have some sewing along and maybe not have time for it rather than lots of free time and no hand work?
Have fun!
They are really adorable, I love how you fussy cut the fabric for the circles. Can't wait to see your quilt together
ReplyDeleteGreat fussy cutting for the circles Leland. Kim McL
ReplyDeleteDenise: Yes, I am appliqueing the smaller circle to the larger one. When I have all done--40, I think--I'll arrange them on my borders and sew them down. I am too impatient to cut out all 40 all at once! I think this way will be more fun--I'll work on them at odd times while I'm doing the top and bottom borders.
ReplyDeleteI also applique the unit together first especially for borders. I find it is to much fabric to hold.
ReplyDeleteI never use glue in my quilts either.
These look like so much fun to do--so many lovely fabric choices you've made! I have to have a project with me when I travel too, even if I never get to it. That way even if I'm stuck somewhere, I feel like I've got something to do.
