Choosing a restrained

color palette has been much harder than I expected.  I plan to make my Roseville Album quilt in the likeness of the antique red and green Christmas quilts.  Instead of a white background I wanted to use black for greater drama.

So, I am sticking to mostly green and red fabrics.  Also, I have made the conscious choice to use many solid colored fabrics as opposed to prints.  I am cutting into my shot cottons and hand dyed fabrics too!

It feels good to add a Kaffe for peeks and punches of color here and there. Every now and then a print is also required!  I spent a great deal of time today selecting the rest of these fabrics and doing prep work.

I think I like how it's looking.  The circles will add more FUN and interest too.  All in good time.

Piecefully, Pam

I will be out of town for several days.  Unlike Liza, I will NOT be in Houston. Nor will I have internet access.  See you when I get back.  ; )

  2. I love your choice! I do think it is hard to used a restrained eye, but you have done it so well.

  4. Nice color choices, Pam--and such a totally different look against the black background. Your birds have some especially lovely wings. This is going to be so gorgeous--can't wait to see more!

  7. The black background is dramatic and gives RA a whole new look. I like the solids too. Hard to call this restrained though--it's smashing!

  8. Pam----I made a jacket from the fabric you used for the squirel. Loved that fabric line.

  9. I considered doing the RA as a mostly red and green too, but in the end decided to go with the bigger color palette. I thought the color restriction might be too hard to do? You've shown that it can be done...and beautifully!
Your quilt is very inspiring. I just love it! I'm anxious to more. :)

  13. When your post came up, my monitor rendered the background color brown instead of black. Even that way, the colors were very rich and I really liked the effect. So know that your choice of color palette works great even when a computer monitor is not working properly!

I'm not making this project but am really enjoying seeing all the work everyone here is doing. And I like knowing that if I ever attempt any Kim McLean projects (I'm tempted to try "Sticks & Stones") not to be afraid to try something different in terms of the colors/fabrics.
