Not sure how this works but here goes....I am currently working on Flower Pots and have one block done...the second one is almost done..just needs me to finish the scalloped circle and applique 3 more leaves. Of course I have another one, Lollypop Trees waiting to be done and I want to do Flower Basket Medallion and am waiting to see what the Flower Garden quilt will be like...I am not doing it in the KF fabrics but am using all asian/oriental fabrics since that is what I had in my stash and the colors are similar except for the golds and silvers which I really love in these blocks. I can also do a lot of fussy cutting and that is working great. Will upload a picture in a few days, but havent figured that out yet.
I have a question...there is a lot of 1/4-inch bias in the side panels of the Flower Pots. How are you all doing them...glue sticking them down before applique..or pin them or baste them, etc. Just looking for some ideas...I have been gluing them down, but thought I might try something different for the panels, since they are so long. Baste
ReplyDeleteWelcome and good job posting, Alberta! ; ) Some of my methods of hand applique are a bit avant garde...I use Elmer's School glue, a very fine glue tip from Sharon Schamber, and a dry iron on medium high heat. Works like a charm!!! So...sew, I glue baste and heat set my applique shapes into position.
ReplyDeleteI baste too. I have tried glue and found out that I wasn't crazy about it, pins get in the way, and though it seems crazy (to quote my hub and kids) to sew it twice, I do, and find that for me, it's the way to go.
ReplyDeleteI think I will try the basting...I usually use glue but I cant use the Sharon Schamber fine glue tip and iron cause I mark my background fabric with the blue marking pen and I dont want to take the chance of ironing in the marking...maybe the next one I will mark with a pencil cause the bias will cover it and then when the bias is all done I can mark the rest of the top.
ReplyDeleteI baste it on too. You're doing a few quilts there. Would love to see some photos! Cheers, Kim McLean
