Field Trip

Today was field trip day for my neighborhood quilting group. Off to Vashon Island which is in the middle of Puget Sound, and accessible only by ferry boat. On Vashon is the Most.Wonderful.Quilt.Shop! "Island Quilter" is it's name. They must have one of the largest collections of the Fassett/Mably/Jacobs fabrics anywhere. This is a picture I took today of what I call the "Wall 'o Kaffe"

Kaffe & Brandon come yearly for workshops and stay on the Island. This year I am going to take the diamonds workshop. It's happening on my day off! I never get that lucky! I can also make the lecture, as well. There are going to be knitting workshops, a painting workshop, and a snowball quilt workshop, too.

If any of you are ever visiting Seattle, this is definitely a destination shop. I did some damage today. To do the diamonds quilt, for starters you need a big pile of half yard pieces...ie 20-22..I know there is more for the edges, too.. So, swell! One more thing to start.

I also came home with a brand new book...Guess who, Kathy & Sarah! It's beautiful!! Now, back to our regularly scheduled quilting...

  4. That wall of color is so awesome, I might have had to just sit and absorb it for awhile like in a museum. How absolutely overwhelming, but in such a good way. Lucky lucky you!

  5. This shop was blogged about somewhere else recently, but she didn't mention the huge K.F selection. It sounds like a wonderful place to go! I'm in the Seattle area, and I would love to go to the lecture! Maybe I could round up a babysitter!

As of yesterday, there was room in the Snowball & Painting workshops. The lecture is Sat evening at 7 at the Vashon High School auditorium. Give them a call if you can!

Maybe we could have a "meet-up" at the store sometime. The Metro bus gets on the boat and stops right in front of their door, so you don't even have to drive on the ferry. There is a link to the Metro schedule off their website, and a great restaurant across the street. They'll even make the reservation for lunch, and give a 10% off coupon for your meal. The store also has a punch card for purchases. I've already filled one!

This goes for anyone else visiting Seattle, too!

  11. How does one exercise ANY self restraint with that kind of selection???

  12. Thanks for all of that info about getting to Vashon, Kathy! I didn't even think about the bus, and have always wondered if it's worth the cost of the car on the ferry to go over. I wish I could do the Snowball workshop, but I've got something else going on that day. I'll see if my sister wants to go to the lecture, too, if grandma will babysit my boys!

  13. Sure! What area of Seattle do you live in? I'm a mile north of Children's Hospital. So, if you guys can go to the lecture...some kind of carpool or meet-up? Because I think I'm going to drive to the lec. since it's at night...I'll have to check the bus schedule, too.

  14. Restraint, Caroline? Why would anyone want to exercise restraint with those yummy choices? Ooooh...you probably meant something to do with a credit card.... Any of us living too far away to visit are definitely envious. Thanks for sharing the beautiful fabric, Kathy!

  15. What a wall of fun Kathy! Have a great day at the workshop. I love Seattle, was there a couple years ago and it was sunny! Great restaurants too. Will have to put that store on the destination map. Cheers, Kim McL

  19. Hi Kathy in Seattle--

I got tickets for my sister and I to go to the lecture on Saturday night. Carpooling would be great. I'm in Kirkland, but we could definitely meet up somewhere on the way towards Vashon--maybe University Village or somewhere off I-5?
